In the land of The Gypsy Baron
Begin a magical journey to the nostalgic land of Hungarian Puszta, intersecting with passionate violin virtuosity, and the world of both classical and film music, and open improvisation.
The special guest of this project is Roby Lakatos – a man beyond description. At the same time a wild, gypsy fiddler, a spiritual klezmer and a perfectly masterful virtuoso, who in a blink of an eye can turn into a seasoned jazzman and composer. Roby Lakatos is a descendant of the famous Romani violinist Janos Bihari. He debuted at the age of 9 as a lead violin player in a Romani ensemble. In the following years he graduated from the Béla Bartók Conservatory of Budapest with a prize for the best student. His talent was admired by Yehudi Menuhin. Lakatos performs with the Klezmer Karma ensemble and Yiddish singer Myriam Fuks, but also with world-famous Martha Argerich, classical Liszt Chamber Orchestra and Vieuxtemps Quartet. He gave concerts in the most prestigious music halls of three continents.
Along with Roby Lakatos we will have a chance to see talented Polish violinist, valued by Lakatos – Anna Wandtke. In 2016 Anna Wandtke released her first album “VIOLIN SOUL”, in cooperation with prestigious publishing house DUX. Lakatos himself has made a guest appearance on the album. The premiere of “VIOLIN SOUL” took place on 02.09.2018 in the National Phillarmonic in Warsaw and the album was given excellent reviews from the press critics. Wide range of Anna Wandtke’s repertoire is a proof of her artistic versatility. She resolutely utilises baroque and classic styles, but also leans towards “twisted classic”, where she mixes classical music, flamenco, film music and improvisation.
The grand duo of violin masters mentioned above is accompanied by equally talented soloists.
Jenő Lisztes – leading Hungarian cimbalom player of the young generatio. Kalman Cseki – piano virtuoso and improviser. Paweł Zaganczyk – versatile accordion player and soloist from Gdansk. Sebastian Wypych – well-known by the Polish audience artist and virtuoso, soloist, chamber music player, experimenter, founder of numerous ensembles – will play double bass.
